grocery shopping in Japan

With a day to expiry date, the supermarket sold this piece of super Aussie crossed Japanese steak for half the price of S$11 (348 grammes). This steak is super tender and juicy. I love the steak sold in Japan.

The Japanese brand cornflakes Calbee is better than Kellogg's and besides Calbee is about 40% less expensive than Kellogg's.
The katsutori (chicken cutlet) and tamago (egg) sandwiches are so tasty that we will always buy a pack or two whenever we visit a certain supermarket.
The last item is the yogurt (500g) which we also got from the supermarket. It cost 50% less than the ones we bought in SG.

Sashimi, sushi and kaisendon

Grabbed the above from a supermarket around 6:30 pm at a hefty 50% discount. Total cost is  600 Yen (S$8). Poor people like us can survive in Japan (not in big cities). There are many other foodstuffs going from 20% to 50% discount in the evening time (most supermarkets close at 9 pm).

Japanese lunch at home

Ate assorted futomaki (top) and yaki soba + salad for lunch. Good stuff and enjoyed thoroughly.

Kaseidon at half price

I bought 2 packets of kaseidon or rice topped up with cubes of sashimi (raw fish) at 50% discount from a supermarket near our home. The original price was 399 Yen each but after discount it was 199 Yen or the equivalent of S$2.70 each. The food is discounted from 7 pm each evening. The food is fresh and when refrigerated it can be eaten even after a few days. I use to pay S$12.90 for the same amount but less fresh at Sushiro in SG.

Yakiniku dinner @ home

Sorry, we have not bought the proper yakiniku grilled pan yet.

Super good dry noodles in Sengkang

This mee kia tar ($3.80) is definitely one of the best I ever ate. The soup with slices of pork, fish balls etc is also super tasty and is prepared separately by a dedicated staff. The Q is usually long during meal times and so visit the stall in a coffee shop at Fernvale Link, Block 417, Sengkang (opp H2O condo). Bus 163 heading towards Sengkang Interchange will take you there. You may also take the Sengkang LRT and disembark at Layar Station.

Home cooked nasi lemak

The nasi lemak was cooked by my talented wife. Although this is her first time  cooking this lovely dish, it turned out to be authentic and delicious.
I did all the grocery shopping, mainly at Sheng Shiong. With this heavy meal for lunch, I skipped my dinner. I was full and contented.
